Guest Lecturer – Thorax

Lung disease is still a health problem that occurs worldwide. The various types of lung disease that can occur require the accuracy of determining a clinical diagnosis so that appropriate management can be given immediately. The role of radiology is very important in supporting clinicians in diagnosing lung disease by providing imaging of the patient’s lung condition. With proper radiological investigations, besides being able to provide information on the disease and help clinicians determine a diagnosis, examinations with several radiological modalities can also be carried out periodically to monitor the patient’s lung condition and see the success of therapy in the patient. Various modalities of radiological examination can be performed according to the needs and conditions of the patient. With the most widely available radiological examination, namely conventional x-rays, the lungs can be imaged properly and can provide quite a lot of information about the patient’s lung condition. Conventional X-ray has now become a routine procedure for initial examination and screening of the patient’s lungs. More sophisticated radiology modalities such as ultrasound, CT scan, and MRI can provide more detailed imaging for certain conditions according to clinical indications.

On this occasion, the Undip Faculty of Medicine Radiology Study Program will hold a guest lecture entitled “Interstitial Lung Disease, lung infections and lung tumors” by presenting speakers who are experts in their fields so as to help broaden insights and material intended for experts/doctors as well as PPDS participants who are studying radiology specialists in particular. The guest lecture was held in 2 sessions, namely on Friday – Saturday, November 25-26 2022 offline at the Orchid Room 1-2 Training Building RSUP dr. Kariadi, which was attended by 66 participants consisting of 17 lecturers and 49 PPDS. The material was delivered by two speakers namely dr. Zuhanis Binti Abdul Hamid from the Putrajaya National Cancer Institute and dr. Wan Aireene Wan Ahmed from Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital. On the first day, the material provided was “Usual Interstitial Pneumonia and Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis” and “Basic HRCT Interpretation and Connective Tissue Disease – Related Interstitial Lung Disease Pattern”. Then on the second day the material “Lung Nodule and Lung Cancer Morphology” and “Nontuberculous Mycobacterium Infection” were presented. After presenting the material, it was followed by a discussion session. Various case examples were presented and the discussion session was interesting. Then the lecture was closed by Dr. dr. Bambang Satoto, Sp.Rad(K).
